About The Tea Centre

The Tea Centre is 100% Australian owned and was first established in Paddington, Sydney in 1993 by Sharon Sansom & Joakim Torstensson who both have a long history in the hospitality industry from fine dining restaurants to 5 Star Hotel Food & Beverage management. In 2000 the team was completed with the addition of Kerry Torstensson.

 

Together they realised the need for a specialist retail Tea Shop dealing in high quality loose leaf teas and accessories. Australians, despite being very big tea drinkers, had forgotten what real tea was all about, they had been side tracked by the tea bag so now it was time to re-educate them.

 

We are pleased to say that The Tea Centre is now one of Australia’s leading retailers of speciality teas and accessories and has grown to 8 Retail Shops located in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra and supply over 500 Restaurants and Cafes around Australia. There’s something at The Tea Centre to appeal to even the most dedicated connoisseur, and for those that are new to the joys of tea drinking the store offers over 180varieties of tea along with personalised service and recommendations to help you enjoy your cuppa to the full.

 

 We have a very interactive website that keeps our customers up to date with the latest news, specials and tea info. If you are unable to visit one of our Tea Centre stores there is no need to miss out as our mail order service enables the busy person to receive home delivery around Australia.

 

Through word of mouth we have established our reputation for freshness & quality. Our tea comes from many parts of the world and is then centralized in Europe, quality tested, blended and then air freighted to Australia every 6-8 weeks to maintain the highest standard of freshness in today’s market. We currently import over 25 tonne of tea annually and still growing due to the increasing demand for premium loose leaf tea in Australia.

 

 Unlike many commercial brands our quality teas contain no artificial flavours or preservatives. Many of our consumers have informed us that this is a very important aspect combined with the numerous health benefits obtained by drinking the humble cup of tea. We can proudly say that some of our customers have been with us for over 14 years and have been our best advertising.

 

 

We also supply  Australian Organic Herbal blends and also stock a unique range of Beaming with Health teas created by well-known Naturopath and author Mim Beim these teas are specially blended to enhance your health and wellbeing

The Tea Centre opened in Paddington, Sydney in 1993. By Sharon Sansom & Joakim Torstensson

We expanded into the CBD Pitt Street Mall in 1995 and a Cafe was added.

Paddington closed in 1996 as the shop was to small.

In 2000 we became the supplier to Qantas First Class.

In 2002 we moved north and opened in Brisbane (Brisbane Arcade).

In 2003 we moved to the capital and opend in The Canberra Centre

In 2004 Rhodes in Sydney's inner west is opened 2nd december

In 2006 Warringah Mall  & Hornsby opend its doors

In 2007 we added  Kotara (Newcastle) and Southport (Gold Coast)

The Tea Centre supplies tea to over 500 Cafes and Restaurants around Australia.
