Taiwan (Formosa)

Tea production started in Formosa (now Taiwan) in the 1850s, when tea growers from the Chinese province of Fujian emigrated to the island.

Taiwan is known for its Oolong and Lapsang Souchongs.

The plantations lie in the plains of the northern and western central part of the island, but the best Oolongs are made with leaves that grow high up on the fertile slopes of Mount Dung Ding in the centre of Taiwan.
