Here at The Tea Centre we are often quizzed about our Ayurvedic range of spicy tisanes, which include Anti Stress, Breathe Easy and Power Mix. Generally, the questions are centred on whether each of these blends really live up to their respective names.
While tea and tisanes provide an abundant source of beneficial properties, we need to remember that they are merely one part of a holistic approach to improving our wellbeing. This concept also relates closely to the theory behind Ayurveda, which is a traditional Indian form of medicine that is commonly practised the world over. Ayurveda is all about addressing problems with our dosha — our Ayurvedic body type, and the balance of mind, body, and spirit through means of meditation, massage, and particularly diet. While our wide selection of herbal teas serves to meet many different purposes, our Ayurveda range is thus named due to the eastern inspired combination of spices. Cinnamon and cardamom are the base ingredients that occur predominantly in these blends as they are such popular spices that are often utilised in Ayurvedic remedies. They are especially useful in aiding digestive problems such as nausea, bloating, loss of appetite, and many other maladies. When it comes down to it, our tummies tend to be the first to endure the side effects of stress and sickness. As an antiseptic herb, the use of thyme has been known to help with chest and respiratory problems, as well as providing an excellent source of vitamin C, and a very good source of vitamin A.
