Darjeeling Makaibari returns to The Tea Centre.
High in the Himalayas, in the state of West Bengal, one of the world’s favourite teas is grown- Darjeeling the Champagne of teas. The Darjeeling region is covered with a lush green cloak made up of Camellia plants from its 87 tea gardens. Among these is one which has earned the respect and renown from the others; Makaibari.
Makaibari tea garden is today as it has been for the last four generations, owned and operated by the Banerjee family. Rajah the present Banerjee owner strives to create a harmonious environment for tea plantation workers and local villagers by forward thinking, and for the plants through biodynamic practices. With the estate still being 70% natural forest cover, Mr. Banerjee encourages nature and wildlife through integrated forest management practices known as permaculture.
The Makaibari tea factory was established just south of Kurseong in 1859 and is believed to be the world’s oldest tea factory. The Darjeeling tea made here still adheres to the traditional methods, which have produced those exquisite tastes for over 150 years.
Makaibari 2nd Flush organic tea is once again available through The Tea Centre to the delight, I’m sure, of many Tea Centre customers(and staff). Treat yourself to a taste of the Himalayas and sip on a cup of Darjeeling tea from Makaibari. BUY NOW
