What is Ayurveda/Ayurvedic tea?

While western philosophies towards health are often reductionist in nature, Ayurveda is just one of many eastern alternative medicine systems that aim to heal ailments in the body through a holistic approach. Meaning “the science of life” in Sanskrit, Ayurveda originally stems from India and considers how changes to one’s lifestyle, body movements (yoga), and diet—including tea consumption—can improve your overall wellbeing. In fact, the common ingredients found in chai were originally selected for their Ayurvedic properties.

In the spirit of Ayurveda and the teachings concerning the three doshas that govern the body, spirit, and mind (vata, kapha, and pitta), The Tea Centre has created three holistic blends to match! These blends are made using Indian spices and herbs that were chosen to address one or two of these energies.

What herbs are used in Ayurveda tea?

  • Vata tea: concerned with treating ailments concerned with movement (think cardiovascular, muscle, and respiratory problems, restless spirit, and concentration issues). Vata teas will incorporate calming ingredients like ginger, fennel, cinnamon, cloves, and liquorice root.
  • Kapha tea: one should drink tea aimed at regulating the Kapha dosha when experiencing ailments associated with imbalance (for example, upset digestion, feelings of sluggishness, and slow metabolism problems). Kapha tea employs ingredients like black pepper, cardamom, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and liquorice root.
  • Pitta tea: the ideal tea for pacifying intense frustration, mood swings, hunger, and fiery ailments like heartburn and fever. Ideal herbs include roses, fennel, dandelion, cardamom, and ginger.
  •

What are the health benefits of Ayurveda tea?

The Tea Centre supplies three different Ayurveda teas in an effort to address the three different doshas that are responsible for a person’s physical, psychological, and emotional wellbeing. The health benefits of each tea are:

  • Power Mix: while benefiting all the doshas, Power Mix is best at addressing the ailments associated with Kapha. Assists in overcoming brain fatigue, and sluggishness, and helps warm the body.
  • Breathe Easy: a tea that is great at correcting Vata imbalances like clogged sinuses, chest issues, and respiratory problems. A truly healing tea.
  • Anti Stress: the perfect tea for those trying to cool their pitta energy. A relaxing brew that calms the mind, soothes sore muscles and helps combat heartburn.
  • Consider pouring a cup of Ayurveda tea the next time you want to relax and unwind during some well-deserved “me” time.
