Pour in style with our Japanese teapots.

The Tea Centre’s Japanese teapots are beautiful ceramic pieces that come directly from the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’. The makers of these teapots ply their craft in Japan’s famous ceramic-producing regions—the Aichi and Gifu prefectures. It’s also worth noting the unique prints and careful brushstrokes on each teapot.

Furthermore, thanks to a belief in the Japanese art of wabi-sabi (beauty in imperfection), no two teapots are exactly the same! Explore our curated collection and find your perfect Japanese-made teapot today.

The Tea Centre’s curated collection of Japanese-made teapots

Japanese-made teapots are ideal for when brewing the perfect tea is just as important as showing off your teapot. A teapot is an essential piece of equipment for any tea lover, and having one that you enjoy using greatly enhances the tea drinking experience. Each of our teapots comes with a built-in infuser and gorgeous design.

The majority of our Japanese-made teapots are made from ceramics. Ceramic teapots have better heat retention when compared to porcelain/china teapots and transfer less heat. Ceramic, Japanese-made teapots are also very durable and require little maintenance. Our suppliers consistently design the teapots to pour well and offer above-average heat retention with your tea. Their lightweight feel marries each gorgeous teapot’s neutral yet contemporary look.

Do I need a strainer?

All of our Japanese-made teapots come with a built-in infuser that makes brewing your favourite teas quick and easy. If you happen to select a teapot that does not come with its own infuser, view our selection of infusers and strainers here to find the perfect fit for your new teapot. If you are using teabags, you can simply pop these in your pot as usual and enjoy freshly brewed tea.

How to brew tea in a teapot

The secret to the perfect cup of tea is to brew the correct amount, at the correct temperature, for the correct amount of time! This differs depending on the type of tea being brewed and the quantity of tea leaves chosen, so we suggest checking out our brewing guide to make sure you get the most from your leaves! Simply load your infuser with one teaspoon of tea per cup being brewed and let the leaves steep.

How do I clean my teapot?

To get the longest life out of your teapot, and keep it looking at its best, we recommend cleaning after every use with warm soapy water and ensuring your pot is dried thoroughly before placing the infuser back inside. We recommend hand washing over dishwashing our teapots—especially on pots where gold paint or intricate parts are present—as they require gentle attention.

Over time, the inside of your teapot may develop a stain from the tannins found in tea—these tannins will be more prominent in black teas than in other tea varieties. To remove this mark, you can use a mixture of bicarbonate soda and vinegar to gently scrub at the stain, or alternatively, use a stainless-steel cleaning foaming formula.
