BAMBOO TEA WHISK
The Tea Centre’s bamboo tea whisk (also known as a chasen) is the tea brewing tool every matcha lover needs in their arsenal. When paired with our Momiji matcha tea bowl, tea aficionados has the basics they need to start practising Japanese tea ceremonies at home. Alternatively, you could also purchase a full matcha tea set here.
Why use a chasen over a milk frother or simple spoon, you ask? The answer lies in our matcha whisk’s 100-prongs design. Made from a single piece of bamboo, the springy nature and number of prongs mixes the matcha powder with water to perfection while simultaneously aerating the mixture. Therefore, a matcha made with a whisk will always be more frothy and smooth than one made with any other utensil. Moreover, unlike metal, a bamboo whisk won’t scrape your precious ceramic teawares!
Need help learning how to brew matcha using a tea bowl and whisk? Be sure to check out our brewing guide here. As for general tips, we suggest soaking your whisk before its first use for two minutes (it makes the prongs more springy) and always whisk in a ‘W’ shape!
