KUMO MATCHA TEA BOWL
Brewing up tranquillity is easy when using The Tea Centre’s Kumo matcha tea bowl. The bowl’s 300ml capacity makes it the perfect size for making matcha. Moreover, its authentic tenmoku-inspired design has it feeling right at home in any Japanese tea ceremony.
Did you know that kumo (雲) means ‘cloud’ in Japanese? The name of this matcha tea bowl is in reference to its beautiful pattern of concentric circles; a common motif in Japanese crafts! Such honouring of nature through clouds patterns is thought to inspire hope and a greater connection to the heavens. Moreover, this tea bowl takes design elements from tenmoku, the pottery aesthetic commonly seen in Japanese tea ceremonies. As is traditional, this tea bowl is made from stoneware and features a reactive glaze. While the overall shape is simple and bold, tea lovers should also note the spiral texture and subtle indentations on the surface of the bowl. Such discordances and organic patterns celebrate the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfections.
