LOOSE LEAF LAPSANG SOUCHONG TEA
An enjoyable sip from dawn to dusk. Lapsang souchong is the world’s oldest, boldest, and arguably smokiest black tea. Its name translates to “pinewood small leaves” in English. This black tea produces a steamy and strong-bodied brew that perfectly complements spicy food. Further famous for being Winston Churchill’s favourite tea, this Chinese brew boasts a history that’s just as fascinating as its taste.
Did you know this loose leaf was the first black tea ever invented? The story goes that an enemy army camped near a tea factory in the Fujian province. This caused factory workers to look for ways to dry their new tea leaves (camellia sinensis) quickly so operations were not halted by the army’s arrival. They began roasting the leaves over pinewood fires. This turned the leaves black and gave this Chinese brew its distinctively smoky flavour!
Today, Chinese black teas are some of the tastiest black teas in the world! Looking for a luxurious gift for your tea-loving friend? They are bound to love this brew, along with The Tea Centre’s Keemun finest and Yunnan finest teas! Explore our curated collection of black teas here.
