Did you know that Momiji is the word Japanese speakers use to describe the red tint maples leaves take on in autumn? The changing of seasons in Japan is a celebratory time, and we see this honouring of nature reflected in the tea bowl’s maple blossom print. Moreover, this tea bowl takes design elements from tenmoku, the pottery aesthetic commonly seen in Japanese tea ceremonies. As is traditional, this tea bowl is made from stoneware and features a reactive glaze. While the overall shape is simple and bold, tea lovers should also note the spiral texture and subtle indentations on the surface of the bowl.
