The king of the jungle meets the king of tea in The Tea Centre’s special release for 2022! Our ‘Year of the Tiger’ pu-erh tuo cha gift box is the perfect pocket-sized gift for family, friends, and colleagues who love tea. Kick-off festivities with this gift box’s assortment of delicious pu-erh tea cakes, otherwise known as ‘tuo cha’. Hailing from Yunnan, our aged pu-erh tuo cha brews up magnificent earthy flavours that not only stand the test of time but promote longevity and good health. Within this beautiful red box, you will find both sheng and shou pu-erh tea. You can read all about the different kinds of pu-erh here.
It’s the question on everyone’s lips—what is tuo cha pu-erh tea? In the most simple terms, tuo cha is a traditional type of shou (ripe) pu-erh (fermented compressed tea cake) from China that farmers shape into a dome and preserve for at least three years. Specifically, both our green pu-erh and black pu-erh tuo cha cakes are aged for five years and are one of The Tea Centre’s most traditional shou pu-erh varieties. The perfect size for a small teapot, these pu-erh cakes are ideal on their own. That way, the infusion can exhibit its true Yunnan qualities.

Design Details

Brewing Guide
Chinese Method:
- Place your tuo cha into your brewing vessel and pour boiling fresh spring water or purified water on top. Allow the infusion to steep for just five seconds before discarding the water.
- Fill the vessel with water and allow this infusion to sit for 15-20 seconds. Strain the infusion into your teacup and enjoy this first steep!
- Repeat this process and simply increase steeping time by 5-10 seconds for each subsequent infusion to get the most out of your pu-erh. This pu-erh can be re-steeped up to ten times.
Western Method:
- Place one tuo cha inside your teapot’s basket infuser, or in a filter bag so that it’s easy to scoop out later. This step is important if you’re looking to steep your pu-erh multiple times.
- Using boiled fresh spring water or purified water, fill your teapot and allow the first infusion to sit for about two minutes.
- Pour and enjoy!
- Increase the steeping time by one minute for each subsequent infusion. This pu-erh can be re-steeped up to ten times.
